This year marks a special milestone for SIA Gaļas pārstrādes uzņēmums Nākotne, as the company celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Nākotne brand. Behind this milestone lie years of dedicated work, strategic growth and the ability to adapt to changing times while preserving family values and respect for tradition. Today, Nākotne is one of Latvia’s leading meat processing companies, making a significant contribution to the development of the food manufacturing industry and the national economy.
How It All Began
The company’s origins date back to 1993, when Kompeksim Nākotne was established. In 2000, the company was acquired by the Jankūns family, who created the Nākotne brand. Over the years, a small family business has grown into a modern production facility employing more than 200 people. Despite its scale and technological progress, the company remains focused on people, family values and recipes passed down through generations, combining these traditions with continuous product development.
Strategic Investments in Modernisation
The past two years have been marked by significant investment projects, with more than €5 million invested in the company overall. A new 700 m² production building has been constructed, enabling more efficient production and packaging processes and providing space for modern, high-performance equipment. These facilities support the development of new products and the automation of production for both domestic and export markets.
Additional investments have strengthened the company’s energy independence, including a solar power park, a modern boiler house, and improvements to water extraction and treatment infrastructure. These investments help increase production efficiency, improve digital tracking of processes and enable the company to respond more flexibly to market demand. Particular emphasis has been placed on developing export-ready product categories and expanding the range with higher-value-added products.
Energy Efficiency and Sustainability in Practice
As part of its commitment to sustainable development and reducing energy costs, Nākotne continues to invest in energy efficiency. In May 2025, a 1 MW solar power park featuring 1,656 solar panels was commissioned on the company’s premises, covering an area of 1.8 hectares.
The park was designed around the company’s electricity consumption patterns, particularly during the summer months, when production activity is at its highest. During its first year of operation, the solar park generated more than 729,000 kWh of electricity, covering 28% of the company’s total electricity consumption. This investment demonstrates Nākotne’s responsible approach to the environment and its long-term vision for sustainable business growth.
Exports as a Driver of Growth
Over the past three years, the company has placed particular emphasis on export development. Today, Nākotne exports its products to more than 17 countries, including Estonia, Lithuania, Sweden, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Italy and other European markets, as well as Ukraine.
International markets require flexibility, innovation and the ability to adapt products to local traditions, consumer preferences and private-label requirements. Market trends indicate growing demand for meat products with an extended shelf life that are safe and convenient to use. In this context, the new production building has enabled Nākotne to double its range of products in the meat snacks category, which is particularly well suited to export markets.
Participation in International Trade Exhibitions
Participation in international food exhibitions around the world also plays an important role in the company’s export development. This year, Nākotne has attended exhibitions in the Netherlands, Germany and Japan. These events provide opportunities to showcase the quality of Latvian food products, establish new business contacts and strengthen Latvia’s reputation as a reliable and competitive food producer. Nākotne actively uses these platforms to expand its markets and increase the company’s international visibility.
Looking to the Future
Looking back on 25 years of achievements, SIA Gaļas pārstrādes uzņēmums Nākotne demonstrates that Latvia’s food manufacturing industry can be modern, export-oriented and sustainable. The company continues to invest in technology, people and new products while maintaining a strong connection to its roots.
Nākotne is more than just a company name — it represents a clear direction: to remain an important and trusted pillar of Latvia’s food industry for decades to come.
